Stress and Health Issues
The stress of everyday life tends to have an impact on us in ways that are difficult to know until we see its effect – persistent headaches or muscular pain, prolonged fatigue, GI upset, even skin problems, joint conditions and major medical issues such as cancer and heart disease.
It is widely recognized that the great majority of office visits to physicians have no underlying physical cause. While we know something is bothering us and that what we feel is real, it is possible - if not likely - that the source is stress …which in turn has its effect on our body and our health.
While there are ways to understand these aches and pains through longer-term psychotherapy, there are also readily obtainable techniques of managing stress and finding relief.
I am a graduate of the Stress Reduction Program of the University of Massachusetts Medical School (Worcester, MA), founded by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn. This program is world renowned for its innovative and efficient approaches to stress management. I have provided stress reduction services to individuals, community groups and corporations for over twenty years.
